Peter is the Group CEO at Cellulant and is responsible for driving the strategic direction and expansion of the business. He joined Cellulant in June 2023 as Group CFO, tasked with driving the company’s financial success, overseeing strategic financial operations and driving operational efficiency.
He is an accomplished CFO and COO with over 30 years of experience in banking, finance, payments, and technology across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Demonstrating a remarkable track record, he has achieved outstanding financial and business performance across diverse organisations, ranging from start-ups and SMEs to divisions and regions of large global entities. His expertise includes managing teams of varying sizes and overseeing all aspects of strategy, finance, and operations, leading organisational transformations comprehensively.
He has spent the last 13 years living and working in Africa, where he has held a number of high-level positions, including Group CFO at Interswitch, CFO at Renmoney, COO at MBU Education Group, and Head of Finance and Market Expansion at Umba. He also has extensive experience working in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He has served as the CFO at Dun & Bradstreet and held various regional CFO roles at First Data Corporation (now Fiserv), a major global payments company. He was also a Finance & Operations Director at Barclays Bank in Ireland.
He is passionate about mentorship and has overseen a global mentoring program for more than 500 finance professionals that supports talent management and development. He is deeply committed to contributing to the realisation of Africa’s potential as a significant global economic force.

Susan is an accomplished HR leader, currently the Chief People and Culture Officer at Cellulant. With previous experience as Vice President of Organisational Effectiveness, Performance, Reward, and Talent Acquisition at Cellulant, Susan uniquely drives the company’s People strategy, fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce.
With expertise in HR strategy and Leadership roles, Susan collaborates with CEOs and C-Suite to propel business growth through strategic people management. She is known for developing recruitment, retention, performance management frameworks tailored to evolving business needs. She has overseen the implementation of HR IT systems, ensuring alignment with the highest standards of EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) governance, compliance, and practice.
Susan’s achievements include designing development programs for various levels, driving cultural change and fostering trust.

Gbenga Haastrup brings over two decades of Governance, Compliance, and Legal management expertise to his role as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Cellulant. In his capacity, Gbenga spearheads the enhancement of compliance, legal, regulatory, consumer protection and governance standards at Cellulant cultivating a robust compliance and governance culture within the organisation.
His track record of over 20 years of extensive experience in fintech, technology, and financial services positions includes key roles in esteemed financial institutions such as UBA Group, Standard Chartered Bank, FBNQuest, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and ATB Financial, where he made notable contributions.
Prior to joining Cellulant, Gbenga had played critical roles in the Fintech industry. He served as the Interswitch Group’s Chief Risk and Legal Officer as well as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. During his tenure at Interswitch Group, he led the development and execution of legal, risk management, ethics and compliance, regulatory, and internal controls strategies across the group. He is also a Fintech thought leader.
He also successfully served as the Global Head of Legal and Compliance at Umba, showcasing exemplary leadership in regulatory compliance management and strategic insights within Fintech.
Gbenga is a senior lawyer with over 20 years of experience and also holds a Certificate in Risk Management from the University of Toronto and a Canadian Risk Management Designation from the Global Risk Management Institute.

Irene Koki is the Vice President of Risk at Cellulant, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise in establishing and leading Internal Audit, Risk, and Compliance functions across diverse sectors and multiple countries. With a strong financial services and fintech background, Irene will drive Cellulant’s dedication to operational excellence.
As an MBA in Finance, a certified public accountant, certified public secretary, certified enterprise risk governance professional and certified information systems auditor, Irene joined Cellulant in February 2024, boasting over 15 years of experience in senior risk and audit roles across various industries, including financial services, manufacturing, and government organisations.
Recognized as a business enabler, Irene provides strategic guidance to management on enhancing governance, risk management, and internal controls, thereby optimizing operational efficiencies and bolstering the company’s bottom line.
Her track record includes delivering assurance to boards and key stakeholders on the effectiveness of organizations’ Governance, Risk Management, and Control systems in managing strategic, compliance, operational, financial, and reputational risks.
In her role, Irene will be instrumental in enhancing Cellulant’s organizational governance, risk management, and internal controls, providing independent assurance to the board and senior leadership. By collaborating closely with process owners, she will identify areas of control weakness, recommend corrective measures, and oversee their implementation, significantly elevating our operational processes.

Richard Gesimba is the Acting Chief Revenue Officer at Cellulant. With close to 10 years of expertise in the payments industry, Richard spearheads our revenue generation and market expansion strategies, leveraging his extensive experience and expertise to drive growth and maximise our market opportunities.
His career began at Samsung, where he was a B2B Global Sales Associate and Country Manager for Rwanda. He was selected for the Africa Youth Leadership Accelerator Programme and subsequently led the DirectPay business in Ethiopia before advancing to Regional Manager for Southern Africa.
Richard joined Cellulant in 2018 as Senior Manager for Global Payments Business, he boosted customer income and secured new business, leading to his current position.
At Cellulant, he onboarded major clients including top airlines, oil companies, and e-commerce businesses, expanding Cellulant into 8 new African markets.
Richard is keen on giving back and empowering the youth. Thus, he looks forward to utilizing the 360° understanding of the region’s socio-political and economic landscape to create an enabling environment for a globally competitive, sustainable Industrial, enterprise and Co-operative sector in Africa.
Richard holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration (International Business) from the same University.
Richard is a fitness enthusiast. When he is not closing deals and digitizing payments for merchants, he is at the gym or playing football.

Catherine Wangechi is the Vice President of Business Operations at Cellulant, where she leads the Service Delivery Unit. In this role, she oversees customer support, service operations tech support, and analytics, ensuring operational excellence, great customer experiences, and data-driven decision-making. With a keen focus on efficiency and customer experience, Catherine drives the alignment of teams, processes, and technology to deliver top-tier service across Cellulant’s markets.
Prior to this role, Catherine led the Banking Business Unit, where she oversaw critical bank relationships across diverse markets, leveraging strategic partnerships to develop scalable merchant solutions that enhance revenue growth and profitability.
She joined Cellulant in April 2022 where she quickly drove strategic sales initiatives across the company’s markets, fostering seamless team collaboration. She is adept at devising and executing sales strategies, optimizing processes, and achieving revenue targets through effective coordination and collaboration.

Grant’s worked in the UK with well known organizations such as lastminute.com, where as Head of Architecture, he played a key role in establishing scalable and secure e-commerce platforms. At BBC News, his expertise in product ideation and development led to the creation of a robust News Content Management System, contributing to the platform’s global success as a leading online news destination in the late though to today.
His tenure at Clickatell, a global leader in chat commerce solutions, saw Grant spearheading the delivery of advanced enterprise products as VP Chief Architect and VP Software Development. His strategic vision and leadership were instrumental in growing and nurturing high-performance teams, driving product innovation, and achieving significant year-over-year growth in financial transactions and message volumes.
Grant’s impact extends to his roles at Visa and Fundamo, where he held senior leadership positions responsible for delivering comprehensive mobile money solutions. Michael has played a pivotal role in orchestrating the evolution of Cellulant’s technology platform into a cloud-native architecture. This involved migrating services to the cloud, enhancing processing capabilities, and facilitating secure and cost-effective transactions for millions of customers and merchants across Africa.
Michael is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge, scalable, and innovative systems that challenge conventional norms, leveraging his proficiency in agile methodologies, engineering leadership, system architecture, and software development.
